As human designed constructs increasingly overshadows the natural world, the Design Futures Lab re-thinks our relationship with nature, viewing waste as a resource and design as a societal service. By collaborating with both emerging talents and seasoned experts, the lab explores regenerative materials on multiple scales, embracing both success and failure for societal impact. For Geelong Design Week, our exhibition transforms recycled waste into immersive spaces, featuring textiles evolving into living matter and sawdust biomaterials, developed in collaboration with Cultivated, dyed with vibrant hues from bacterial and natural dyes derived from food waste, with pH adjustments creating diverse hues.
